Sight Loss Awareness Event - Laura Gooljar, Eye Clinic Liaison Officer at St Mary’s Hospital, will be hosting a sight loss awareness event on Saturday 23rd March, 10.00am till 4.00pm at The Riverside Centre, entry is free and refreshments can be purchased. Confirmed attendees at the time of writing are Sight for Wight, Guide Dogs, Macular Society, International Glaucoma Association, Retina UK, Orcam, RNIB, NHS Falls Team and information from Esme’s Umbrella and the Nystagmus Network.    

We invite VI Members to help test our updated website. Sight for Wight is in the process of updating our website to make it more accessible and user friendly for visually impaired users and more aesthetically pleasing to sighted viewers.  Some VI Members have already undertaken some testing on our behalf with a couple of text to speech software packages, but we would be delighted to receive feedback from as many VI Members as possible, as there are many different software packages available.   We are keen to identify and correct any glitches or difficulties experienced before we go live with the updated website.  You can access the website by typing: http://sightforwight2.wightcomputers.com/ Please provide your feedback to our Marketing, Communications & Fundraising Manager on admin@iwsb.org.uk during the coming week so that we can relaunch the new website by the end of the month.    

A quiz night in aid of Sight for Wight is being held on Friday 3rd May at Newclose Cricket Club. It starts at 7.30pm with teams of up to 4 people. If you would like to join in then please let Laura or Chris know by Wednesday 20th March on 522205.    

Upcoming Activities - We will be attending the Independent Arts SingAbout session at St Marks Church Hall, Wootton on the first Wednesday of the month, beginning on Wednesday 3rd April. The session runs from 2.00pm till 4.00pm. It is free to attend and refreshments are provided. However, voluntary donations to Independent Arts are appreciated. Minibus transport may be available depending on location and costs £2.00.    

We will be swimming at the Special Care Session held at West Wight Sports Centre in Freshwater on the third Wednesday of each month, beginning on Wednesday 17th April. The session runs from 12 noon till 1.00pm. The cost to swim is £4.20. Minibus transport may be available depending on location and costs £2.00. If you are interested in joining the group then we will need to ask some questions about your swimming ability, general health, mobility and next of kin details. Numbers are restricted for this session so please register your interest early.    

There is one space left on the Pottery Session on Monday 29th April. This 2 hour session will involve the use of the potters wheel and costs £25.00. The price covers everything required including clay, materials and use of the kiln fire. The session takes place at Jubilee Stores on Newport Quay. Unfortunately there is no minibus available for this activity.     

We will be visiting the Donkey Sanctuary in Wroxall on Friday 3rd May. This is a social outing to meet the animals and enjoy refreshments in the coffee shop. There is no charge for the activity. Minibus transport may be available depending on location and costs £2.00. The closing date for registering your interest is Friday 12th April.    

The audio book group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at Lord Louis Library in Newport. We meet from 2.00pm for about an hour.  We discuss the last month’s book over a cup of tea or coffee, before handing out the book for the next month. Books are available on CD or USB stick. There is no charge for this group for visually impaired people.
