At a prestigious evening held at the Lakeside Spa Hotel, Wootton, as part of Age UK IW Celebrating Age Festival 2017, two of our members picked up awards for their voluntary work. John Berry picked up first prize in the Age UK Community Award category. This was for his voluntary work in serving the local community by driving the community bus and providing a much valued service.
Danielle Burgess was awarded third prize in the Age Friendly Volunteer. This award was for Danielle’s work as a telephone befriender maintaining regular contact with mostly housebound clients.
The event recognised the valuable contribution that Age UK staff and volunteers make to island residents; many giving their time and energy to improve the lives of the elderly and vulnerable.
John and Danielle both enjoyed the evening very much and overwhelmed and proud to have received their awards.
