DESCRIPTION:The award-winning festival returns from 25th May 2024! Come and see us and find up to 100 scarecrows on the scarecrow trail throughout the villages of Chillerton and Gatcombe. Free entry. \nThere will once again be a people’s vote for the most popular scarecrow\, so a chance to participate in the Island’s quirkiest festival. Scarecrow maps will be available from the Village Hall and Gallybagger Inn. \nAunt Sally’s Tearoom will be open each day for a cup o’ tea an’ a slice o’ cake from 11am to 4pm for refreshments and snacks. \nThe Gallybagger Inn will also open Saturday 25th May\, Sunday 26th May and Saturday 1st June from midday to 4pm with live music acts each day. It will also be open evenings from 7pm on both Saturdays\, Monday\, Thursday (Folk night) and Friday (Bingo)…with the addition of live Music on the Saturday evenings. \nSight for Wight will be serving refreshments on Tuesday 28th May (10:00am – 5:00pm) so please come along and say hi!

SUMMARY:Striders
DESCRIPTION:Striders meet on the last Friday of every month. They walk on different routes around the Island and then finish off with lunch at a local pub or restaurant. The group is open to all visually impaired people who like longer walks in the countryside and\, of course\, there are always sighted guides on hand and the routes are always checked for suitability in advance. \nThe cost to walk with the group is £3.00 and when we do not leave from Newport\, transport can be provided at a cost of £2.50.

DESCRIPTION:Our Thursday Social Group has a new name!  The group meet every week from 10.30am till 2.00pm at Millbrooke House and give visually impaired people the chance to ‘mix and mingle’!   We have planned themes each week; e.g. beach day\, pub quizzes\, bingo\, carnival day\, music day and much more!  Members bring along their own packed lunch to enjoy. \nThe group welcomes volunteers who come in to read from various books. \nThe weekly cost to join the group is £3.00.  Transport can be arranged (subject to availability) for an extra £2.50.

DESCRIPTION:Every Wednesday\, we have a drop-in session which allows you to view and try low vision equipment we have at Sight for Wight without the need for an appointment.  If this time is not convenient for you then you are welcome to call us to make an appointment to view our equipment. \nPlease note if you wish to trial a specific digital magnifier or ‘seeing headset’; these items are not held in stock at Millbrooke House but we can arrange meetings with the relevant suppliers.

DESCRIPTION:We hold a coffee morning each week on a Wednesday at Millbrooke House from 10.00am till 11.30am. All are welcome to join us for a cup of tea or coffee and cake. The cost is £1 and the group is open to all\, not just Members. \nOn the first Wednesday of each month we are joined by the Macular Society for their monthly meet up. \nOn the second Wednesday of each month we are inviting people to bring along a friend/relative/neighbour to enjoy coffee and cake with us. \nOn the third Wednesday of each month we will be joined by Laura Gooljar\, the local ECLO (Eye Clinic Liaison Officer) from St Mary’s Hospital (starting in August 2021). \nOn the fourth Wednesday of each month we will have a trustee/member of staff on hand to answer questions about the charity.

SUMMARY:Swimming at the West Wight
DESCRIPTION:Cost: £4.20 per person to swim plus an additional £2.00 for the use of the minibus if required. \nThe Special Care swim session is in the main pool only but the temperature is raised to make it more comfortable for older and/or less mobile people.  It’s a very friendly session with extra pool staff on hand and newcomers are very welcome. \nIf interested then please register by calling 522205 or email: members@iwsb.org.uk.  We will need to ask some questions about your swimming ability\, general health\, mobility and next of kin contact details. \nMinibus transport is available subject to demand and location.
