DESCRIPTION:Sight for Wight is inviting visually impaired (VI) members\, volunteers and stakeholders to a Consultation Meeting that will inform the future direction of our charity.  The meeting will include discussions on our mission and options for future programmes and operations. \nSight for Wight trustees met in January to narrow down what we think is feasible for us to achieve and we will share these reflections and options at the Stakeholder Consultation Meeting. \nFor practical reasons the total number of participants at the Consultation Meeting is limited to around forty.  This means that\, in addition to trustees\, employees and Guarantor Members\, we are limited to involving a further 10 VI members and 10 volunteers. \nIf you would like to attend on 11th February please let us know by email\, letter or telephone by 4th February at the latest.  To afford an equal opportunity to every VI Member and volunteer interested in attending\, if we are oversubscribed\, names will be drawn from a hat.  Further details of the meeting will then be sent accordingly\, including any assistance with transport for VI Members we are able to offer\, which may be limited to providing a sighted guide escort service from Newport bus station to the meeting venue. \nIf you are unable to attend\, you will still be able to input into these important discussions.  If you would like to make any suggestions or observations for consideration\, whether or not you are able or hope to attend in person\, please let us have your reflections by 4th February at the latest – again by email\, letter or telephone.  Please ensure emails are sent to enquiries@iwsb.org.uk   Please mark emails or letters with Consultation Meeting in the title so we can readily identify them. \nFor those wishing to contribute by telephone\, Member Services Assistant \,Sue Young\, will be manning the phones for this purpose on Tuesday 28th January from 9.30am – 3.00pm and again on Tuesday 4th February from 9.30am – 3.00pm.

DESCRIPTION:Cost: Free \nLunch: Refreshments\, snacks and light lunches will be available to purchase\, or you can bring a packed lunch. \nClosing date for expressions of interest: Friday 23rd August 2019. \nTransport: Arrangements will be confirmed once numbers attending are known. \nWe are considering a group trip to the Ageas Bowl in Southampton to visit the Eye Contact Exhibition which is taking place on the 25th September.  This is Hampshire’s biggest free exhibition which brings together guest speakers and the latest equipment and services available to those with\, or at risk of sight loss. \nTo gauge whether there would be sufficient interest in a group trip\, please register your interest by Friday 23rd August.  Once we know possible numbers\, then we can finalise transport arrangements. \nPlease note: This is a big event in a large venue.  Therefore\, good mobility will be essential to walk around the large site. \nAll activities are subject to demand and availability of volunteers.

SUMMARY:Sighted Guide Training for Volunteers (My Guide Level 1)
DESCRIPTION:It is recommended that all volunteers participate in this training to gain some understanding of and insight into sight loss as well as learning the essentials of sighted guide training.  Refresher training every two years is recommended. \nTraining will take place at Millbrooke House. \nLevel 1 covers the training required to become a Community Sighted Guide\, allowing you to feel confident to offer assistance to visually impaired people\, both out in the community as well as with your role as a Sight for Wight sighted guide. \nIf you are interested in the training please contact Laura Jasper to register your interest on 01983 522205 or email: members@iwsb.org.uk

SUMMARY:Day Sailing on the Spirit of Scott Bader Catamaran
DESCRIPTION:Start Time: To be confirmed depending on tides but will be early morning. \nEnd Time:  To be confirmed depending on tides but will be mid afternoon. \nCost:  Assuming full capacity\, the cost is £27.00 per person.  This may change if all spaces are not taken.  We will confirm any change in advance of the activity taking place. \nLunch:  Bring a packed lunch as well as any other refreshments you may want throughout the day. \nTransport:  None provided; make your own way to and from the Marina. \nClosing date for applications: Friday 23rd August 2019. \nThe Spirit of Scott Bader is a purpose designed catamaran which we will be joining for a day’s sailing around the Solent.  It has a ramp access\, accessible controls\, saloon and onboard toilet.  The Skipper\, John\, is a qualified RYA Instructor and will encourage you to do as much or as little of the sailing as you wish. \nPlease note: Due to the limited spaces available\, places will be offered on a first come\, first served basis.  If the activity is oversubscribed\, a waiting list will be made for priority selection on a repeat visit. \nAll activities are subject to demand and the availability of volunteers.
