Graphic of the Needles, on the Isle of Wight

My name is Emma Downer, I am the new apprentice Visual Rehabilitation Specialist (VRS).  My course is 2 years long and officially starts in May.  Currently, I am gaining experience working alongside the current ROVI, Pete, who will be supporting me throughout my learning journey.  I have been doing lots of shadowing and watching how he coaches people who are cane users. I am also learning to read and type Braille.

I am based at Millbrooke House and am working alongside the Wight Sense Team, who are showing me the ropes and learning about the organisation and what support and activities Sight for Wight offers.  I have enjoyed taking part in the activities; these include Mix and Mingle, Yoga sessions, and a walk with the Striders.  Each activity has been enjoyable, and I have loved meeting so many new people with their own stories to tell.
