Ruth has been a trustee for the IWSB for several years now. She is also a regular volunteer, manning the telephone on Reception at Millbrooke House and meeting new visitors to the Society. She is also one of the IWSB’s grateful service users, receiving the Talking News and using the Audio Library.
Ruth was registered blind in 1998 and has found the Society a constant source of both practical and emotional support. She decided to use her experience of living with sight loss to try and help other visually impaired people on the Island.
As part of her trustee role she regularly gives awareness talks to Island groups and at information days. She also helps out with the weekly coffee mornings at Millbrooke House, as well as running the Macular Support Group on the Island. Ruth enjoys her role as trustee and gets a lot of satisfaction from knowing that she is helping to make a difference to the lives of Island residents who are living with sight loss.
